If you know me, you know I absolutely LOVE thrifting. It's so fun, sustainable, good for the planet, and you get to collect unique & vintage items and put the coolest outfits together. It can be super overwhelming at first, but I think I've got it down to a science. Read below for my thrifting tips!
You have to give good stuff to get good stuff! I'm a big fan of switching up your aesthetic and style to keep things funky and fresh. This means wearing pieces a few times, then recycling them by donation! Each time I go thrifting, I bring at least one donation bag with me - what goes around comes around! By putting good back into the universe (and the store), you'll get good out.
Shop in both women's and men's sections! Clothing doesn't have a gender, so hit all the aisles for the optimal thrifting experience. I've found some of my favorite pieces in the men's section. The coziest oversized crewnecks, coolest graphic tees, and best vintage sweaters reside in these aisles. In addition, you can find the prettiest blazers, dresses, and skirts in the women's section.
Shop the kid's section for tiny, Y2K-inspired crop tops. Little pastel tees with patches and pictures on them are all the rage these days. To complete this early 2000s Paris Hilton vibe, definitely hit the kid's section for the best form-fitting tops that you won't have to crop yourself.
Use Pinterest and Instagram as a guide! Before I go thrifting, I love to pin or save photos for outfit inspo. Use these pictures as you're shopping to find similar color combinations, patterns, and accessories. Make your dream boards come to life, sista queen!
Get creative! With a pair of scissors and a sewing machine, you can do ANYTHING. If you see a jacket or pants that aren't necessarily your size but you love the color and texture, buy them anyway and upcycle them when you get home! To be a queen thrifter, you have to have a very open mind and wild imagination. Be confident in your thread and needle skills, and watch the magic unfold.
Some of my favorite thrifty queens include:
